Suredjas' Visit

Ep.23
HKG – Hong Kong.
“It’s not what we eat but what we digest that makes us strong; not what we gain but what we save that makes us rich; not what we read but what we remember that makes us learned; and not what we profess but what we practice that give us integrity.” – Francis Cacon, Sr.

Hong Kong View
As it was titled, this post is the accumulation of all of the Suredjas’ visits to Hong Kong. Who are they? They’re my boyfriend family, who had been in a relationship with me around (let me count…), yes 4 years 5 months and 27 days. So this is just a small pieces of their visits that I’ll try to arrange nicely in one piece of story.

Me and bf's sister.
I barely know each of the individual of The Suredjas until the middle of the fourth year of my relationship. Being friends with some of the cousins enabled me to position myself from no one to someone (hyperbolism!). Oh come on! Cut it off already, Shella! The first one who visits was my boyfriend’s sister, which also works for another airline. I could say that my bf adores her a lot and respect her in all ways that he might be. Her visit to HK was actually on the last day of Induction training, when we actually had a gathering dinner of Induction 28/2011 in Yulia+Mia’s apartment. Yulia is her old friend, and she stayed over at hers as well. The next day of her visit, we went together to accompany Yulia, Afree, Rasima, Mia, and Krisma to take their HK id in Cheung Sha Wan Government Office. The id collection was less than 15 minutes then we stopped by a Giordano shop, which occurred to having end of season sale at that time. Still fresh in my memory how the Giordano pen (supposedly for the used of credit card payer customer to sign the receipt) ended up in our hand (Sssttt!). She bought some items for her family back home and as I have Jakarta flight later, I volunteered to be the carrier of the package. We bid our good bye at the MTR Station, where she will continue her day with Yulia to Mong Kok, while I will explore Causeway Bay along with Mia and Krisma. Afree and Rasima, they’re missing in one of the shop!

Some of our hanging out activities.
The second one to visit was my bf’s cousin and family. They came on 26th – 31st of January 2012. I would rather say that we’re (me + his 3 cousins) quite close to each other (at least according to me) but meeting their parents is another story. They stayed in a hotel in MongKok, which I proudly said that I have mastered the territory by the time. I met them up just right after my flight on their third day of visit (if I’m not mistaken). I appeared in the hotel lobby they stayed around 8pm. Introduced myself to their parents and chit chatted, tried to be as casual as I could. I mean, it was a big difference when you bring up yourselves in front of “just your friend” family and “your boyfriend” family. The tension was absolutely different. Ah! The cousins were Nuke, Petrus and Olivia. Three of them and their mom were joining me to a late night shopping tour in Ladies Market and Fa Yuen Street (those street ripped my wallet since the first time I arrived HK). We’re all finished at around 11 pm. and I walked them back until the hotel lobby again. We made an appointment for the next day that I will meet them up again in the morning and go to Tung Chung.

So the next morning, I was on my way to MongKok and I made a stop in one of my favorite Cha Siu Bao shop in Sham Shui Po. I bought 6 of the Bao and made another stop at my favorite Eggtart shop there. I continue my journey by MTR and meet them in the MongKok East Station. The weather when they come is humane already. At least 16°C. We went directly to Tung Chung, Citygate Outlet where all the item (I don’t know why) is a lot cheaper than any other places. Dragging all the shopping bags back to the food court and have a lunch there and finally we went back to the hotel to drop all the shopping bags and packed it into the suitcase (in order to consider to buy another suitcase). Around 6 pm, we’re ready for the next destination: The Avenue of the Stars, where you can watch the symphony of light every night (8pm) and see the skyscrapers light dancing in accordance to the music played as well as taking picture with many Hong Kong famous people hand prints. While waiting for the show, we bought ourselves (they treat me) the grilled squid (supper yummy!) and of course you will never miss a shot with me around. We took a lot of picture. It was really sad that later on the memory card was corrupt and all left was only few pictures.

I guessed I was too energetic that day that I couldn’t even imagine how to drag my feet back to Gold Coast when it was only 10 pm. So I decided to stay over. The next morning, their plane should be departed in the afternoon, so all we can do is to have a nice breakfast in a chachanteng around MongKok. At around 12 pm we bid  good bye and they went back to Jakarta.

Weird faces
The third visit was Nia and her family, another relatives of my bf. This time I have two visitors in a day. I met my cousins in the morning to have a sushi brunch and have a quick shopping with her and her friends. And later on, I met Nia and her family at around 7-8 pm to have dinner. Nia stayed in a hotel in Causeway Bay area. Luckily, I’m familiar enough with the location of the hotel. I knocked on their room door and greet her parents nicely (hope it was nice enough). I have met her mom in the past, during the Crocs great sale in Jakarta, as for her dad, that was my first time meeting him. We walked around the area to find a quite decent restaurant for our dinner. (once again) I was treated. After finishing our dinner, we moved to the dessert restaurant, well, I have said that there will be always a room in our stomach for dessert (sweet tooth!). We jammed all the durian dessert in that dessert restaurant called Lucky Dessert and I bid farewell to them and return to my own apartment. The next day, I got a flight so that I can’t make it to meet them up.
5 vs. that much.

It was great to have somebody visiting you when you’re actually living far away from home. Hanging out with Suredjas, I would say, you will never be far from what we called food, a lot of foods. And I was gladly said that my bf’s family was one of those kinds that stand strong together and holding each other back at anytime. A strong family bond that they have, sometimes made me envied them, but remember, every family has it own style and neither you nor your family can choose who will be your family or your family’s member. Until the next visit then, Suredjas!
