Induction 28/2011 vol.2

Ep.10

“The greatest pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do.” -Walter Bagehot.

Waiting for emergency drill practical test.(those who were not in the picture might be doing the test 10 metres from us)
The first week of my new life in Hong Kong is quite melancholic. I could say it because I got to adapt with all the new routines and being far away from family, boyfriend and friends is another shape of torture (even though I managed how I could finally deal with it and enjoy my days here in Hong Kong within 2 weeks). There was a time when I was staring at the ceiling of my apartment, wandering “am I choosing the right path”, questioning my choice. But then, I remember all the efforts  and all that I do in order to get into this place. I gather up my senses and get back on the right track with the same determination, just a little bit stronger one (keep telling myself that I can’t be a crybaby and whine about everything).

Training days includes 1 week of workshops (the first 4 days I have told you in the previous post), 2.5 weeks on the training school, 1.5 weeks on service excellence and another 1 week of tests (out of million tests during the common week) and gym session and observation flight. The training is from Mon-Sat from 8 am to 5 pm, which means I only have Sunday to sleep and rest or to explore Hong Kong (wanna give a guess which one did I chose? Of course the second one! tee-hee..).

It was actually Kay's but I took it. Faces of Ind 28/11
Safety School train us how to give CPR, how to handle this and that and emergency situation, how to shout the command, fire drill (fire fighting), smoke drill (saving a teddy bear in a room full of smoke with only torch and oxygen bottle), ditching situation (swim to the raft), aircraft door and escape system, aircraft instrument, hands on the aircraft, etc…etc… Sounds really great and interesting ,huh? Wait ‘till you read the next sentence. Every single step and topic, has it own test. We have to do all the tests like every 2 days or twice a day or may be right after they taught us how to do particular thing both written and practical. Every single day we were given bundles of paperworks, copies of topics that we should read. It seems on those days, papers are our meal and tests are our beverages. Exhausted? You name it! But the fire burning inside us, the dream within that brought our feet that far to this place, made us endured and finally made it through.

Me and Rainard
I wouldn’t say that I could do it my by my own motivation, there are a lot of things that (once again) I believe God has granted upon me. He put me into a group of people that was really humble. Even though we’re different at age, background, experience and so on and so on. Somehow, all of us goes along together very well. Everyone has their own story, reasons to be standing here. Even the Hong Kong crew, they helps us a lot. Whenever we need guidance about Hong Kong, they will be there to assist (they even show us where to buy all the necessities for household, even accompanied us and acted like a tour guide of Hong Kong *thank you Janny, Elvis, Bart, Murphy and Kelly*). One quote that Rainard said during that day is became another power booster. "We cannot be the best person, but we can be a better person every single day. Look back for a while then think how far you've been through to be on this position".

Induction 28/2011 is a new home for me. As my trainer said at the very first introduction day “your induction will be your lifetime friends.” At that very first time I thought it was just a hyperbolic phrase to motivate us, but on contrary, it DOES really true. I have become accustomed of their presence in my days at Hong Kong. Laughing and stressing together made us like some silly band of baboons. Hahaha… Facing all this training made our friendship even more and more closer one to another as we have some common sharing value.

Another dinner gathering right after passed all the final tests
As the safety training school finished, (we all passed the final tests!), we were proceed to the service excellence part of the training. All the Indonesian seniors said “enjoy safety, coz service is a lot more harder”. And so be it. The stress was doubled. Public Announcement lesson, English Service Language, all the differents type of cocktail (it was rather easy for me, thanks to the bartending class back at school), all the landing cards, rules and regulation of different ports, port and route of the destinations, different flight different tasks, different position different task, different aircraft different service flow and etc..etc... KILL ME! Feel my head can’t afford more information. It was really stressful days back there!

It was not a smooth sailing at all! Failure, for some of us. Retest, for few of us. Still the dream keeps us alive and strive for what we believe. The first thought of this job might be shifted for some of us, but for me, I really can’t tell why, but I could say that I rather expect it to be like this. (may be it was due to my study of hospitality? or may be the effect that I don’t like to admit any lost from the situation. No matter what, I wont whine for what I’ve said to be “what I want”.)

But “God never give you a situation that you can’t get over”. We finally finished all the training days, and look back where we standing now. 6 weeks ago we know nothing about today, and looking back all the things we have accomplished made me smile and proud that I can finally finished it without a thought of giving up (altogether with my lovely classmates of Induction 28/2011). New habit that we had here is whipped up some gatherings (oh we love to gather), ordered and cooked some foods, and eat...and eat and eat. Coz no matter how much we eat, it seems we always hungry (bet it because we use both our mental and brain to much for the stress and training), and the effect on me is I'm gaining weight again and again. *_* One that i also proud to say, no matter what the occasions,

Summer BBQ by the Beach at Siu Lam
Long story short, we were now qualified to fly, to explore the world, and to put our footprints everywhere. For me, it is the beginning of my fabulous journey and let’s build up some sweet memories. I was very glad to announce that all of our hard work has been paid of (not to mention all the hassle bustles we did when we first checked our first salary transfered to our account.).

“Travel the world. One day our life will flash before our eyes. Make sure its worth watching.” – Me.
