“Focus on the journey, not the destination. Joy is found not in finishing an activity but in doing it” – Don Williams

A week or so before 7th July 2011, I have finished my final project for my university thesis *I’m thinking to write a blog about it now*, been busy with my routines and haven’t heard a bit from CX. Worry? Damn yeah! I even consider to take a job vacancy offered by RCPP at that time. I also check a forum for flight attendant wannabes (www.forumpramugari.wordpress.com) and I can tell some of them got the same “6 weeks waiting in the dark” card, and still haven’t got any idea about the recruitment result as well. I was just telling myself like “Oh my God, I know you’ll give me the answer in the perfect timing.” (a little desperate “calm myself” prayer).

Until one day (forgot the date), I was doing my part time, sitting in front of the front desk computer, and suddenly (Ding Dong!) I got an email from CX (finally!) telling me that they were offering me the contract, the date and time of the contract signing (if I were interested *now you tell me? hell yeahh*, and brief of the contract details. Heart stop for a few seconds….starts to beat…..fast…faster….and brain automatically backtracking to a few minutes ago…re read the email. Again and again. I even leave my desk, go to the teachers’ room and ask one of the teachers (Ivan) to confirm that I do not get the wrong message out of the email. Ivan is one of the teachers that I talked to a lot (well I talk a lot every time), and he is always there to give me some little “head knocking” common sense and support.  I remember in one of our morning conversation, he was doing his work on his computer and I’m doing mine on my computer, he told me “You know what, Shella? Many people have their own goal, and you’re one of the kind that have a strong will. Your will power will bring you further.” And that time I was like not take it to seriously and replied “Then Will Smith is the one with the best “will power”.” (Stupid answer! I know. And as I recalled this conversation now, I feel that it was a precious sentence to heard).

I still can’t believe that I got ACCEPTED! (read: one step closer). And here’s when God interferes, once again. The contract signing date was on 7th July 2011. And if I signed the contract, I will become the first batch from Indonesian recruitment 2011 along with another 17 persons and we will depart to Hong Kong on 26th July 2011 and the training will start from 1st August 2011. Well look at the calendar, how fast my life would change at that time. My boyfriend even tell me that he hasn’t prepared his mental to let me go and live in Hong Kong in less than a month time frame. And wait a minute! I haven’t got my Final Project tested and haven’t know whether I am qualified to graduate or not. (imagine how many things should I think about at the same time?)

God answered my prayers (as always) in an amazing way. The final defend about my final project schedule, where I should defend my project against three (repeat: THREE) of my lecturers, is published. Guess what? My defend was scheduled on 6th July 2011at18.00-21.00, and the contract signing will be on 7th July 2011 at 9.00. Well, I was just thinking that God wont let me sign the contract without finishing my study first. I was extremely happy at that time. Thank You God for making such a perfect timing for me.

On the bus with Ind 28/11
Long story short, I told my lecturers about the job opportunity, as they are also offer me some job vacancies, and all of them are extremely supportive about this. I did my defend, (well can’t say that perfect, but rather more than just OK, of course, I put all of my efforts to wrote he whole 350 pages of it!). On the 7th of July 2011, I finally met all the other successes of the recruitment. It was all about 100 people. I was assigned to sit at the first three six-seaters desks (as I was supposed to the first batch, Induction 28/11). We introduced ourselves one to another, chit and chat and finally it began. The lady from our recruitment day was there, explaining about the contract details, gave each of us a bundle of paper to read, to sign and explaining about the benefits, how to this and that. And try to answer all of out answers (very thirst of information). In approximately 3 hours talk, I finally signed my first contract in my life. I was so thankful to my God, and those who involved, my dean at university, my manager in EF, my previous HR manager of RCPP whom trusted me and write me letter of references and supports me in every way. As well as my boyfriend, family, friends and those who can’t be mentioned one by one (sounds like an award winner already).

IT WAS DECIDED! Me and my other 17 persons (Kay, Rara, Hendri, Doni, Yulia, Mia, Krisma, Afri, Helen, Vira, Jezzy, Rainard, Yusuf, Riani, Olivia, Candy, Val. Their name will appear in many of the following stories I guess.), will depart and move to Hong Kong on 26th July 2011 and start out 6-weeks induction training on the 1st of August 2011 (that was the only information that we know, we don’t have any passport in hand, neither Hong Kong working permit, all we got is faith and eagerness to start this job.). World, here I come!

Silly face that i made while eating the sesame ball..
